Nokia has confirmed the Lumia 928, its new flagship Windows Phone smartphone, through a teaser on its US website that also displays the image of the phone. The teaser focuses on the camera capabilities as it features the caption 'Capture the Highlights'. Interestingly, the teaser doesn't feature Verizon branding.
The teaser follows a print ad in the magazine Vanity Fair that featured the same image and mentioned that the phone will employ Nokia's PureView imaging technology for taking images in low-light conditions and Optical Image Stabilisation. The phone in the image sports US carrier, Verizon's branding.
Earlier, a billboard advertising the phone was also spotted.
A few weeks back, the phone's image was leaked on Twitter by the serial phone-leaker, @evleaks. Looking at the picture, it was apparent that the Nokia Lumia 928 will come with a PureView camera along with Xenon Flash. Earlier rumours had suggested that the Lumia 928 will come with an aluminium casing but later it was pegged that it will be the Nokia EOS or Catwalk that will feature the same. The leaked picture also suggested that the Nokia Lumia 928 will come with a polycarbonate body much like the Lumia 920.
Nokia Lumia 928 is being touted as the slimmer and lighter version of the currently flagship smartphone Nokia Lumia 920. As per some news reports the Lumia 928 is expected to be 10.2mm thin.
Other rumoured specifications for Lumia 928 include 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display, which is allegedly being made by Samsung. The display will have a resolution of 768x1280 pixels.
Nokia Lumia 928 is expected to come with an 8.7-megapixel PureView camera just like the Lumia 920. The Lumia 928 will allegedly come with 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and 2,000mAh battery. Reports also indicate that Nokia Lumia 928 will come in White, Black, Red and Cyan colour options and will be exclusive to US carrier Verizon.
Following weeks of rumors and an apparent billboard ad, Nokia has launched a teaser site for its upcoming Lumia 928 handset. The site doesn't reveal all the specifications and details about the Lumia 928, but it confirms the naming and follows a recent magazine ad noting its launch on Verizon. The printed ad confirms Nokia's focus on the low-light abilities of the Lumia 928, with a mention of PureView, optical image stabilization, and the typical Carl Zeiss lens.
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop recently hinted that a new Lumia would gain hero status at a major US carrier, and it appears the Lumia 928 launch is imminent on Verizon. Nokia's image doesn't show the device fully, but it's consistent with previous leaks and looks similar to the company's Lumia 920 handset. Both Microsoft and Nokia are believed to be investing significant marketing resources into the new Lumia 928 launch, hoping to boost Windows Phone market share in the US. Nokia hasn't confirmed a launch date or pricing for the Lumia 928, simply teasing that people should "stay tuned for updates."
Update: Nokia isn't commenting specifically about its teaser site. "While we continue to work closely with Verizon and Microsoft to promote Windows Phone, we have made no new product announcements at this point. All I can say is you should expect to hear more from us soon," says a Nokia spokesperson
