Xubuntu 13.04 is an official derivative of Ubuntu and it features the Xfce desktop environment, which is stable, light and configurable.
Canonical has yet to publish any official information about Xubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail), but we do have some details about the packages included in the distribution.
Xubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) Daily Build features Linux kernel 3.5.0.17.19, Mozilla Firefox 17.0 Beta 4, Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0 Beta 2, Abiword 2.9.2, and Pidgin messenger 2.10.6.
The daily build of Xubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) can be found on the official Canonical website. Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.

The desktop image allows you to try Xubuntu without changing your computer at all, and at your option to install it permanently later. This type of image is what most people will want to use. You will need at least 192 MB of RAM to install from this image.
