Amazon's supercomputer among the world's fastest 100

  • 26,496 cores
  • Theoretical maximum speed of 593.9 teraflop / s
  • Memory 106 TB
The list of the 500 fastest computers in the world is constantly evolving. In the last list on the Amazon supercomputer reached 64th position crowned as one of the most important developments. To achieve this position the Amazon supercomputer needed 26,496 cores that have led to process almost half petaflop per second . His previous record, in 2011, stayed at 240.1 teraflops per second and now stands at number 165.
Theoretically Amazon supercomputer could get a handle 593.9 teraflop / s but his record was 484.2 teraflop / s . The other technical features are those that leave your eyes open for a while:
  • Memory 106 TB
  • 10 Gigabit Ethernet connection
  • Using instances "c3.8xlarge"
  • Intel Xeon E5-2680 V2 with 16 cores and 2.8 GHz
But beyond specifications must talk about latency. Amazon's supercomputer runs in a single location to reduce the maximum. It is the only system which is virtualized in the TOP 100 so that those responsible are more than satisfied with the result.
Having only a data center allows this lower latency, but also allows for minor fluctuations in the networkso that packets can be sent are greater. A vital feature for the use of the system.
But there is life beyond the supercomputer from Amazon and I have to make mention of Tianhe-2 , the supercomputer developed by the National University of Defense Technology of China, which maintained its position as the No. 1 system in the world thanks to its ability to process up to 33.86 petaflop / s .

Some data of the 500 fastest computers in the world

The list of the 500 fastest supercomputers in the world leaves some very curious, as the processors used or the use of the most common technology for internal communications.
Intel continues to provide the processors for the vast majority of participants, 82.4% by 412 of the 500 systems . AMD Opteron has 43 devices and IBM does the same with 40.
94% of the supercomputers presented with six or more cores and 75% use 8 or more. The InfiniBand technology is in 207 systems, 4 more than the previous list and is crowned as the system most widely used internal wiring.
